Reply 1988

Before even starting this article I was already sobbing. Koreans are famous at producing dramas that make you cry and laugh at the same time. And Reply 1988 is one of the best examples out there.

Following Reply 1997 and Reply 1994, the plot system is no different in Reply 1988. Meaning, we've got different teenagers, the main character is a girl, and we have to found out who she ends up with in 2015. Which is, actually, really hard. The scenario is written so carefully that you doubt everything until the last episode. But, if you are an investigator, and search every images, you can found out. (I knew for Reply 1997 and I think I found out for Reply 1988)

I wasn't very excited to watch this show, because I didn't like the "second season" - Reply 1994 -, I was totally disappointed. But this season is much better than the previous seasons.

Not only do we see the teenagers' lives, but we also get a glimpse of the family members. There are a lot more adult characters in this season, and that makes the show much more interesting.

I laugh a lot when the scene takes place with the teenagers, and start crying when an adult is involved in the action.

Here are some examples :

she was "helping" him get rid of his cramp (in korean cramp and cat sound the same)

well... I think it's obvious what happened here

When JungHwan's dad misses his deceased mother

With my friend, every tuesday, we send each other text messages about the drama, because Reply 1988 makes us crazy ! It's a MUST watch my friends !

She Was Pretty

A quick update to share my thoughts about this drama I just finished.

First of all : oh my God, FINALLY a drama that REALLY ends. No open-ended scenario.

Also, it's one of the rare drama that hasn't the "oh my, the Big Problem, need to solve it or everyone's gonna die", on the last episode. The last episode is really calm and cute and funny and it puts you in a comfortable bubble. Like it made me want to get married, seriously. Though, people who knows me knows that marriage and me equals a big NO.

She Was Pretty was so predictable, and Hwang Jung Eum was starting to get on my nerves because she was doing too much sometimes it wasn't even funny, it felt weird when she started screaming like a baby. Dude, seriously ? You're a better actress than that.

Siwon remains the best of them all. I thought I knew his character, that behind all these smiles and funny jokes there were a tortured kid, but actually he's just a mature kid. He just loves to play around and joke all the time. And he's right : what the heck, let's be all kids and enjoy life !
He is really fascinating, and I think if it was another actor that played this role, it wouldn't have been that funny, Siwon really knows how to use his facial expressions.
Also, he said something that made me want to cry, because I found it very touching, and a notion so important but lot's of people tend to forget :

I really like you Jackson. Without regards for whether it's as man and woman, I just like you as a person. The human being Jackson. No... I really like you for who you are, Kim Hye Jin.

Moon River or Zey's a sucker for chick-flicks

Because YES, Moon River is a chick-flick. It's your typical : the rich boy and the poor/weird girl falling in love story. And it is a theme of most of chick-flicks.

First of all, I don't understand why people tend to criticize chick-flicks. It's not because it is for women that OF COURSE it's going to suck or be all melo-drama.
The Notebook is one of the greatest chick-flick I have ever seen. Not only thanks to the actors but also with the way it is filmed. Watch that movie and you'll change your mind about chick-flicks.
And there are thousands of funny chick-flicks, it's not all about melo-drama. Pitch Perfect is a musical chick-flick : did anyone cry their eyes out ? NO.

So, chick-flicks aren't crappy movies.

With that in mind, let's get to the topic of the day : Moon River may be your typical chick-flick, but it is addictive. I mean, I kinda watched 30 episodes in three days. I even skipped my episode of The Flash I was waiting all week to watch.

The story

Ming Xiao Xi is a girl who comes from a very isolated place, where she learned Kung-fu so she's kinda out of her place in this new environment. The male character is played by the charismatic Sam Lin, and is named Mu Liu Bing. He is very rich and popular at the college they both are going to. Liu Bing is older than Xiao Xi and has been to this college probably more than a year earlier than her. He became the president of the Elite Club and lives a perfectly boring life with his two princes charming best friends. Until he meets a strange girl that wears finger socks, which is, OHMYGOD, so not appropriate for rich people :note the sarcasm:

(I had finger socks for years in high school because there were SO FUN to wear during gym class were shoes weren't allowed.)

My thoughts

Thanks the Heavens, it won't change anything in the evolution of their feelings. I think, it even makes Liu Bing love her even more. Because she's not like the other girls he met. She's full of stamina, fun to hang out, never gets beat up, and seems so strong, both physically and mentally.

Oh but we all know that isn't true. Liu Bing barely sees her really sad. And I counted : two times and it was at the last episode. Really dude, you suck. So, our little cute Xiao Xi doesn't have much choice than to cry in the arms of one of the prince charming, named Chen. Even though I think it's good in some way, because Liu Bing won't get too jealous for example, it's still very frustrating because she can't seem to show him her weaknesses. She's like this rock he can hold onto. But he keeps forgeting that she is not a rock but a human, with real human feelings.
Chen knows that. He knows how much she's hurt. He's like an angel. Really, I thought he was, until the last episode. Because he almost never shows any other feelings than compassion and love. Never shows that he is sad, or VERY angry. He's a flat character. We just know he's very rich, he loves to play violin, he has feelings for Xiao Xi, loves his friends and... that's all. There are no complexity to his personnality. We don't know anything about his past, his family, his pets... It's like he came out of nowhere so he could protect Xiao Xi. A guardian angel.

Among the characters, there is one in particular that caught my eyes and it's Lucy played by Hannah Quinlivan, Jay Chou's wife. She is so beautiful she looks like a Barbie doll (and she gave birth to her daughter two freaking months before the drama, HOW DID SHE REGAIN HER PRE-PREGNANCY FIGURE SO QUICKLY ?!)

Despite the fact that in the beginning Lucy indeed seemed like a Barbie, with not much brain work going on up there, she is actually one of the smartest girl on this show, Unlike "the bitch" (you know, the one that every drama has ?) she obtains what she wants by her cute actions, trying not to hurt people around her. She's aware of what's going on but acts like a peacekeeper.

Overall, it's a good chick flick because of the chemistry between the main actors, because despite all the unrealistic plots, the relationships are painted based on reality. I mean, they feel true, not "Nicolas Sparks dreamlike relationships", but how they evolve with the hardships, how their trust to each other is true and limitless but "don't push too far", how loves keeps growing and is not "at first sight"... I really like how they painted relationships in this drama, that was the main focus for me.
And also Sam Lin, please, take a moment to look at him. (here comes the cutest scene ever)

Zey's Come Back - October 2015

Shame on me, it's been a year I last uploaded.

College was crazy. I kept fighting against my teachers. I hate them all. Anyway, back to dramas.

So, during that year I was M.I.A, I did watch a lot of dramas. There were some that were AMAZING (Kill me, heal me PLEASE, best drama of 2015), but I won't talk about them right now. Maybe later.
I have a motto : what's in the past stays in the past (lol, if you know me, you know I don't really follow that motto. I'm a nostalgic girl. ANYWAY)

Ok, now that I apologized, (what ? You didn't really apologized. Yes, I did. No, you didn't. Yes. No. STFU) let's get to real thing.

Watching right now

She was pretty

Fucking amazing. The cast of Kill me heal me (well, two of the main actors) are in this drama : Hwang Jung Eum and Park Seo Joon. They were supposedly brother and sister in Kill me heal me (and I insist "supposedly" because the character of Park Seo Joon had non-brother feelings for her sister, WHAT ?! I didn't spoil, it's obvious from the beginning). In She was pretty, they are childhood friends, starting to have feelings for each other. Jung Eum is a great actress, she doesn't need any introduction anymore. Park Seo Joon got better at acting since Dream High.
And there is Shisus.
I mean, Siwon. You know, the sexy guy from Super Junior ? Yeah right, him.
He is absolutely wonderful. Everytime he plays a character that is extravagant in some way, I love him, because he does it so well. Shin Hyuk, his character, is this guy that disguise himself as a poor biker who enjoys to bother everyone. Well, people who have funny reactions at least. But in fact, he is probably the richest of them all, and probably has one of the saddest story of the drama. We don't know much right now (there are 8 episodes available at the moment), but I believe in my instinct.
Let's watch and see if Ore-Sama was right !

D-Day

Oh. My. I'm torn between "I love it so much, this is crazy, please, give me all the episodes," and "my, it's unbelievable. What the heck, a lot of things aren't plausible. Like seriously, who wrote the scenario ?"
Update 09/11/15 : watched 15 episodes and still think the same way : what the hell it's weird but I'm addicted !

Sassy, go, go !

I don't have a lot to say about this drama since I've watched like only two episodes. For now, I like it. It seems fun, and even though I thought at first that it was going to be a cool, not too emotional drama, I think it hides lots of secrets. Can't wait to find them out.
Update 09/11/15 : I watched 10 episodes and I was right : the characters are very complex, having lots of problems with their family, battling with school, parents, teachers and battling with the other students as well. Some are very messed up kids, some are totally lost, others are challenged in making good. I love the fact that those children are between doing good and bad stuff, not really knowing if they should do bad stuff or not. Because when you're young, you don't really know what's good and what's really bad. You tend to test both of them. And this drama deals so well with this notion.
Update 13/11/15 : Alright, I finished the drama. And I loved it ! Even though I would have loved it better if Yoon Doo ended up with a certain person, but you can't get everything, right !

This is it for today. Yeah, I know, three dramas only. What the hell happened dude ? You used to watch ten dramas at the same time ?! I don't know, not a lot of dramas this season are interesting I guess.
See ya !

December drama

Healer

Just one thing dudes. I've seen two episodes but I can feel this drama is going to make me crazy.
I'm already addicted. That sucks.

Update : it's not the drama I'm addicted to but to Healer. I almost didn't recognize Ji Chang Wook! Dafuck did he have surgery or what? Healer is the agent name of Jung Hoo but he is also Bong So, the nerd journalist. Does it remind you of something? Yeah Superman. But Healer is not persuaded to do good things like saving the world. Actually, he has difficulties understanding people. He dreams about buying an island and leaving there all alone! That pretty much explains his whole personality. It's like his from another world. I think the explanation we have about his past is not sufficient (being abandoned by all), I'm sure something else happened in his childhood or teenage years. We'll see if I was rightin a few weeks!

Pride and Prejudice

Choi Jin Hyuk is fucking amazing. As always. The plot is interesting but needs to be deeper and please do not reveal everything so early. Though it doesn't really change the fact that we keep wanting more and waiting for the next episode.
(Choi Jin Hyuk, you smile once again, I die you die we die)
(Last sentence from Full house take 2, remember that scene?)

Cantabile Tomorrow

Nice but nope I still prefer the Japanese version Nodame Cantabile with Chiaki Sempaiiiii. But yeah, there are some actors that are good, the plot isn't that different from the Japanese one. While for Boys Before Flowers/Hana Yori Dango, it was different, like the directors told us one story but so differently. Here, it wasn't interesting to watch because it didn't brought a new point of you on the story.

Nobunaga Concerto

Kyaaaa. Shun Oguri is NOT a high school student but I really appreciated the show! It's almost over nooo whyy. I don't even understand what's so cool about the drama. I would have never believed that I would love that kind of show. But I do. I don't know if it's thanks to the actors or the plot or the rhythm of the show but I love it.

What happens to my family

Well it's been a long time that I started it. It's more like a sitcom, but really fun to watch. Do not watch it with your family though. It will bring bad ideas to your parents !

High School Love On

Huuh... what ? Oo they're really cute but they are so bad at acting xD There were indeed too much cuteness in these show ! A bad or good thing? It keeps its viewers so...

Modern Farmer

I think after the end of the show I'm going to make a looooong review about it. It's worth it seriously.

And I still didn't watched Joseon Gunman ! (Update : yes I'm watching it right now and wooow) I can't believe it! Or birth of a beauty and Pinnochio! (Update: I'm watching this last one too now!) I don't have time with all the jobs I have to do :deep sigh :

Modern Farmer

First impressions on Modern Farmer my friends.
Well this is totally... absurd. Like really. Even disgusting scenes (see : scene with the dog) are absurd. I couldn't watched that scene and I didn't understand the meaning of putting it in the drama. But the episode after reveals us the reason. Still, they could've found another way.
But it's awesome. Lee Hong Ki as always is crazy and funny and ABSURD.
Oh My God. I need to announce it here : FT Island's coming in Paris and I really really love them. Tomorrow the tickets will be available for buy and I really hope to buy one.
PRAY FOR ME FRIENDS.

UPDATES :

I'VE GOT MY TICKET.

Anyway.

The show, yeah right, hum so. Lee Hong Gi is perfect ? What ? It's not a valid reason to watch the drama ?

Ok then one reason. The character that Hong Gi plays is the guy that takes care of the "after service", like he says, when it's about a woman. Which means that he really is responsible besides the fact that he is such a kid sometimes. Like with his "kwaenchanayeo kwaenchanayeo!" He is not a jerk, just a little bit naïve maybe, but that's what makes him adorable. I love the fact that even if he is crazy about Yoo Na, if she has an attitude, he's not taking her bullshit, he goes to her and asks her to explain herself. That's what missing in most of the korean shows, and that's what makes this show serious despite all appearances.
The second reason : all the parodies ! Of movies, shows, American, Korean, ... It's really fun to watch.

My Secret Hotel

Hello world.

I needed some time to write this review about the Secret Hotel because it made me all... I don't even know the right word exists to describe my feelings. It's kind of a mixture of sadness, happiness, craziness, excitement, loneliness, fullness, understanding.

I really loved it. From the OST through the actors and the story to the way of filming it.

People who knows me knows that I'm kinda in love with Yoo In Na. She is absolutely cute and amazing and gorgeous.

Jin Yi Han is my dream guy.

Wait, no, Go Hae Young IS my dream guy.

I so totally understand him. When I love, and I think that was love because it's been so long I last dated, I only think about love. I almost left France to go study in a foreign country so I could be with the guy I met during summer holidays with the excuse that "but that university is way better than the one from here! It's important for my carrier." Lol (I'm happy I broke up with him before really leaving because I would have regret it later) I've been through all kind of "love", from the frivolous one to the "I love you so much that I don't think I can live without you". And that last one ? Every time I see him, I feel an ache deep inside. But when he is not around, I'm happy and I don't even think about him and It's such a relief to see him only once a year.

Anyway, I digress.

Nam Sang Hyo and Go Hae Young lived that kind of love, they met and married in 7 days. Like Romeo and Juliet. But their love was real, because fate made them meet again 7 years later. That damn number. 7 is always related to destiny. It's everywhere. And I hate it.

7 Harry Potter books ? Why can't it be 8? 8 years of school in Hogwarts would've been great too.

7 days in a week ? I'm not against one more day in a week (which would be a second sunday of course, called "Moonday")

7 years between middle school and high school, the only moments in our lives where we are teenagers (officially anyway)

And so on.

I don't know what to say about the drama. Except that it's really cute and so real. I think everyone will want to live a love story like that.
I want.

I think listening to Taylor Swift while writing this didn't help me at all. Damn girl.
